Physical Features

Landuse within the catchment: 58% residential, 7% industrial and 35% open space most of which is located adjacent to the lagoon as a golf course and playing fields. Urban development has had a major impact on the lagoon. By the 1940's most of the surrounding wetlands were filled and drained.

Special Attributes

General

  • Manly Lagoon has a restricted outlet to the sea through two concrete low flow pipes at the northern end of Queenscliff Beach.
  • No dune system remains along the main ocean beach, having been wholly contained within the ocean wall.
  • Manly Dam is no longer used for water supply but has become a popular recreational area.

Manly and Warringah Councils have formed the Manly Lagoon Joint Estuary/Floodplain Management Committee which has prepared a management plan for Manly Lagoon.
