Media Release - Department of Water and Energy

Date: 1 July 2008

WATER ALLOCATION ANNOUNCED FOR BELUBULA WATER USERS

The Department of Water and Energy today announced reductions in water allocations for the Belubula River for the 2008-2009 water year.

Based on the current storage levels, high security licence holders will initially receive 50 per cent of entitlement for the next three months, with trading allowable in an upstream direction only.

General security licence holders will receive an initial allocation of zero, but can access natural flows downstream of Carcoar Dam based on an agreed flow trigger at the end of the Belubula River.

The state’s Central West has not received any significant rainfall over the summer and autumn months.

The current storage capacity at Carcoar Dam is about 2,740 megalitres - a decline of 1,400 megalitres from the commencement of the last water year.

Although there is no town water supply or stock and domestic water delivered from Carcoar Dam, it is important that water users are aware of the situation in order to plan their operations over the coming year.

The Department of Water and Energy will monitor the situation closely and review allocations as new resources become available.

Additional information is available on the Department’s website at www.dwe.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively; licence holders can phone their local DWE office for more information.
