Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 21 April 2008 ALGAL COUNTS DOWN AT HUME DAM Chairman of the Murray Regional Algal Coordinating Committee, Richard Scott,today downgraded the algal alert issued on 8 April for Hume Dam from Red to Amber.
“Concentrations of blue-green algae in most parts of Hume dam have decreased considerably over the past two weeks, and the reserviour is now back to Amber alert status,” Mr Scott said
Under an Amber alert, the water is suitable for recreational uses such as swimming or water sports, but should be considered unsuitable for drinking in its raw form.
