Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 15 January 2009 LANDHOLDERS URGED TO CHECK THEIR LICENSE CONDITIONS The Department of Water and Energy today advised all licensed irrigators on the unregulated tributaries of the Murrumbidgee River be mindful of the "cease to pump" condition attached to their licenses.
Licensing Manager Steve Webb said that dramatic decreases in flows had occurred in all tributaries in recent weeks.
“Of particular concern are Hillas Creek, Adelong Creek and Tarcutta Creek where flows have already dropped below their respective "cease to pump" levels with Gilmore Creek being perilously close and falling,” Mr Webb said.
Pumping in contravention of license conditions is an offence. The Department has new powers in relation to on the spot fines and hefty increases in fines imposed following prosecution.
Mr Webb said that license holders could access information on the respective gauge heights via the Department's web site - www.waterinfo.nsw.gov.au. Follow the link "Access data via list of sites".
All landholders, along with licensed pumpers, are asked to be vigilant and report any suspected activity by contacting the Department's Compliance Branch on 1800 633 362 or the Department's Licensing Manager in Leeton on (02) 6953 0700.
