Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 29 January 2009 FLUCTUATION IN COLLIGEN CREEK LEVELS
The NSW Department of Water and Energy today advised landholders along Colligen Creek to watch for fluctuating water levels and make any necessary changes to their pumps accordingly.
The Department has requested State Water to increase releases to the creek to help improve water quality in the current extreme hot weather conditions .
Releases into the creek may vary between 250 megalitres to 400 megalitres over the coming days and will cause changes in surface water levels.
The Department of Water and Energy, NSW Fisheries and State Water are working closely in response to a recent fish kill in the creek, suspected to be caused by low oxygen levels in the water due to rotting vegetation and high temperatures.
For more information on flows and water levels please contact Col Hood at State Water, Deniliquin office on 5898 3900.
