Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 11 April 2008 DENMAN WATER TREATMENT PLANT - OFFICIAL OPENING Minister for Water, Nathan Rees, visited Denman in the Upper Hunter today and joined Muswellbrook Mayor Cr John Colvin to officially open the town’s new Water Treatment Plant. Mr Rees also announced a further $263,125 in NSW Government funding to help improve Denman’s water supply. Denman’s 1,500 residents now have a secure supply of water on tap that meets the highest Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Construction of the $3.6 million Water Treatment Plant was the final stage in Muswellbrook Shire Council’s program to improve and increase Denman’s water supply, which was supported by the NSW Government’s Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program. Mr Rees said the Iemma Government is committed to working with Council to deliver a secure, affordable and sustainable supply of water to the Denman community. More than $1.5 million in funding through the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program has been provided to Council to support the Denman Water Supply upgrade program with approved further funding of $263,125. The additional funds will reimburse Muswellbrook Shire Council for work completed in 2005 to construct the Denman water delivery main. This additional funding will free up Council monies to be spent on other initiatives to improve services and facilities for the community. The Iemma Government provides technical, management and financial support to local water utilities through its $1.1 billion Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program. The Program has enabled the completion of more than 300 water supply and sewerage projects, delivering improved public health, benefits for the environment and securing water supplies for more than one million people living in country areas of NSW.
