Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 1 July 2008 FULL ALLOCATION FOR IRON POT AND EDEN CREEK IRRIGATORS The NSW Minister for Water, Nathan Rees, and the Department of Water and Energy today announced Available Water Determinations for water sources across the state for the start of the 2008-2009 water year. Irrigators from Toonumbar Dam will have access to 100 percent of their entitlement for the 2008-2009 water year. The Richmond catchment has continued to receive rainfall since November, raising storage levels sufficiently to allow water users downstream of Toonumbar Dam to have access to 100% of their the entitlement for the 2008-2009 water year. Inflows have been consistent since the start of 2008. The dam level is near capacity at around 99 per cent. The continuing drought over recent years had seen a reduced allocation, but the favourable coastal rain has resulted in storage levels increasing. Many off creek storages are also full, providing added security for irrigators and providing plentiful water for stock. This allocation will provide surety for all farmers who utilise the waters from Toonumbar Dam to plan their agricultural activities for the coming year. Water users in the water sharing plan areas of the Upper Brunswick River, Coopers Creek, Bellinger River, Dorrigo Plateau Water Source, Toorumbee Creek, Apsley River and Commissioners Waters Water Sources as well as the Alstonville Plateau and Stuarts Point Groundwater Water Sources have received full allocations for the next twelve months. The Department will continue to review water use and availability in planning for future seasons. Additional information is available on the Department’s website at www.dwe.nsw.gov.au.
