Natural Resources Commission
Setting the standard for natural resource management
The Natural Resources Commission (NRC) was established by the NSW Government in 2003, as part of an extensive range of reforms for land and water management. The Commission reports directly to both the Premier and the Minister for Natural Resources, providing the Government with independent advice on a range of natural resource issues.
The NRC has set a statewide standard and set of key targets which together underpin the management of our natural resources. The goal of the standard is to ensure our water sources and landscapes continue to meet the environmental, social, economic and cultural needs of our communities long into the future.
DNR plays a key role in the implementation and monitoring of these targets, providing advice, information and technical assistance to land managers, water users, other government agencies, and Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs).
