Soils data online
Detailed and accessible information about the condition and capability of the state's soils and landscapes is vital to support sustainable urban and rural development, and to help maintain our natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
SPADE is a website provided by the Department to help users to conveniently find the particular data they need. Using SPADE, you can zoom into the area you are interested in, click on one of the soil profile points displayed on a map of New South Wales, and retrieve a report with details about the landform and soil at that site.
About the New Version
SPADE NRAtlas is a new version of the SPADE viewer using the NRAtlas map serving and viewing technology, replacing the previous Java platform. SPADE now provides direct access to all Public soil profile records in the SALIS database, with additional data such as soil landscape maps to be added progressively over the next few years. SPADE supports the three levels of reporting available in the previous SPADE Pro viewer.
The information accessed by SPADE Arc comes from SALIS, a centralised database that compiles descriptions of soils, landscapes and other geographic features from more than 60,000 collection points across NSW. All Public soil profiles within this dataset are available online through SPADE NRAtlas.
We thank our users for their patience during the development period of this new system, during which time the previous version of SPADE was not available. If you have any comments about the new version, please contact us.
