SPADE was developed as part of the connect.nsw initiative, sponsored by the NSW Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), with resources for the SPADE Pro enhancement being provided by the former Department of Land and Water Conservation. The original SPADE interface was built by ERSIS (now part of MapInfo), whilst the SPADE Pro and SPADE NRAtlas upgrades were carried out by staff from the former Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources and the Department of Environment and Climate Change respectively.
The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change is the custodian of SPADE, SALIS and their respective data sets.
Although most of the soil data distributed through SPADE has been collected by staff of the department a large number of soil profiles have been provided over many years by employees of other Government agencies and non-government organisations such as environmental consultants. Many thanks are due to these organisations for making their soil data publicly available via SALIS.
