Darling Anabranch scheme

Pipeline Scope

The provision of a new Stock & Domestic Water Pipeline will enable environmental benefits to the Darling Anabranch (removal of weirs, reinstatement of natural flow events) and improved water security for landholders.

The Stock and Domestic water pipeline is designed for 230,000 dry sheep equivalent, 39 homesteads and 11 cottages.

Dimensions of the pipeline are:

Main Pipeline is 210 km in length

  • North–South pipeline is 175 km in length (from Fort Courage on the Murray to Willotia Station)
  • East–West pipeline is 35 km in length (from Polia Station on the Darling to Manilla Station)
  • Sizes of pipe vary from 375 mm down to 100 mm

Spur Pipelines are approx 110 km in total

  • Spurlines deliver water from the main pipeline to storage tanks

Alignments:

Alignment for the pipeline follows road reserves, access tracks, fence lines, power lines or other infrastructure where ever possible. The route has minimised the extent of cross country alignment.

Installation:

Pipeline is to be installed with in a trench underground, with approximate depth of 600 mm – 700 mm (2 to 3 feet) cover.

Pump Stations:

There are two main pump stations:

1. Murray River Pump Station:

  • Extraction of water from the Murray River
  • Located at Fort Courage (Wentworth Angling Club) approximately 20km west of Wentworth

2. Darling River Pump Station:

  • Extraction of water from the Darling River
  • Located at Polia Station approximately 30km north of Pooncarie
  • On farm storage tanks

Timeframe for pipeline construction:

The anticipated timeframe for construction of the pipeline is as follows:

  • Award of Contract in February 2006
  • Aboriginal Expression of Interest process March 2006
  • Commence works on site May 2006
  • Pipeline Construction until December 2006/January 2007
  • Pump Station Design and Construction until December 2006
  • Testing December 2006
